10 Highlights From Last Weekend’s Motorsport Action

After a busy weekend of motorsport, we’re here to run you through all of the highlights, from WRC barrel-rolls, to drivers cleaning their own cars and awkward pit stops

How great was it to see drivers properly wrestling with their cars in the rain at the British Grand Prix? In case you missed the race, catch up with all the highs and lows here.

Kimi Raikkonen suffered an unusual spin on the pit straight during the British GP, which weren’t shown on TV. Safe to say it wasn’t the Finn’s day…

Nico Rosberg did a ‘Lewis’ (or ‘Jenson’, whichever you prefer) during Friday practice, and accidentally pulled into the Force India pit box. Yeah, next one along, Nico!

4. Hunt and Lauda, reunited

Twitter pretty much exploded when Niki Lauda was shown on TV chatting to Freddie Hunt, son of the great James Hunt. He looks just like his dad, too. So many feels.

Romain Grosjean binned his Lotus during second practice at Luffield, and felt pretty bad about it. So bad, in fact, that he helped clean the car to try and get it back out as soon as possible.

After Kris Meeke’s awkward first corner roll during shakedown, Thierry Neuville crashed his car in a similar style during the real thing. He completed the rest of the stage (even though he picked up a bit of debris) and finished Rally Poland in sixth, with Sebastien Ogier taking another victory.

The huge final lap Nascar smash wasn’t the only pile-up during the Coca Cola 400 at Daytona…this one on lap 105 took out several big names, including Kasey Kahne, Matt Kenseth, Joey Logano and Martin Truex Jr. The Sprint Cup event was dominated by Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Austin Dillon dodged the wrecks at Daytona to win the Nascar Xfinity Subway Firecracker 250. The biggest crash of the night took place with 10 laps to go, and saw the likes of Chris Buescher, Ty Dillon, Darrel Wallace Jr and Regan Smith all get collected – 12 cars in total were involved.

The FIA World Rallycross was in Sweden for round six. Timmy Hansen was initially crowned the winner after finishing first in Sunday’s final, but he was penalised for pushing after a last corner overtake on Mattias Ekstrom, who picked up the victory when Hansen’s penalty was applied.
