Ford Confirms Focus RS And Says It Will Be Available In America For The First Time

We’ve known that the Ford Focus RS was coming for a while. Our early reports suggested that it would feature all-wheel drive and that it would be powered by the same 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine found in the Mustang. Expected power from this turbocharged four-pot was up to 350bhp.

What we didn’t know for sure was if the new RS was going Stateside. Now, we can confirm this to be true, thanks to a press release which states:

‘Ford today confirmed it will be launching an all-new Focus RS – the ultimate performance version of the world’s best-selling global nameplate. The company announced that the all-new RS will be made available to customers in major markets around the world for the first time.’

On top of its global confirmation, the new Volkswagen Golf R rival’s confirmation isn’t the only nugget of news, as Ford also said that more than 12 new performance vehicles will be launched by 2020.

Ford’s new global team - which combines the expertise of Team RS, Ford SVT, and Ford Racing - will work together in developing new cars and accessories, including power upgrades, aero tweaks and weight reduction.

The new RS will likely be built in Europe and shipped overseas meaning that markets such as America will probably only have Focus RS models in very limited supply… but supply nonetheless.
