As the tittle suggests, I would like to separate the engine oil cooler from the rest of the cooling system. Why? Because this engine has a tendency to overheat when in active daily use (gives 2 kind of warnings of temperature rising). I’m planning on increasing the engine’s power out put -> heat output, and it’s going to get driven pretty hard too.

My father’s car had been having a random rough idle/power delivery problem accompanied by a MIL. Since the car is pre OBAnything, the “fault codes” are usually either misleading, or they couldn’t be read in the first place because the ECU gets stuck at a certain point while trying to read the codes. But after spending some time under the hood, there were 2 visible possible causes: both of the knock sensors. The insulating rubber had completely torn itself apart over time.

I’m curious to know what kind of experiences you people have had on using an air compressor air/water separator as a primitive oil catch can. I’m soon probably going to spend 10€ or so on a filter to get my own impressions on the subject regardless, just to prove the point either way. Many people online are claiming that they do in fact work(at least to an extent). But then why would this cheap alternative be overlooked? People are buying +100$ kits and not complaining about the pricing, which makes me awfully suspicious. All feedback is welcome, thanks in advance.

I suddenly had an urge to do something about my car’s sad looking interior and decided to start with the gear shift lever guard yesterday. With enough determination, some planning, measuring, several hours spent swearing with the sewing machine and 15€ used on the materials. It wasn’t very demanding but it did test my nerves a few times. Especially getting the shift knob out (and back on) was a rather simple but strenuous task. Rotating the knob 45 degrees and pulling it upwards.

So straight to the point: does increasing your air filter surface area make a difference to the airflow? And if it does, which way? I’m not a genius in physics but maybe someone of you is ;D So I have thought it a couple of ways: A) the flow resistance is doubled because of the airflow being guided through 2 different channels with same filters > same force is required to pass the filter from half of the air flow B) flow resistance is reduced noticeably because of air having more passage in the filter because of the extra surface area
