Hey guys, I’m back again with more kei cars in depth, this week I’ll go back to the past, talking the kei cars to 3 major eras, the 360cc era, 550cc era, and 660cc era. This should break down how cars were like back then and all the crazy cars that exist that time. So let’s get cracking.

I’m back again with another Kei Cars in Depth, and this week I’m discussing about kei cars in the motorsport world. In Japan, kei cars are not only known for being small and possibly fun. Some tuners all over Japan have tuned these tiny cars to the fullest, battling against cars above its size, and win against some. There are even events that are specifically made for kei cars, which is dominated mostly by the trinity + Copen and S660. Some cars even reached rally stages in Japan and out of Japan.

AZ-1, Beat, Cappuccino, 3 two seater kei cars that revolutionized the image of kei cars, all released in the early 90s. Before the three, most people see kei cars just as boring cheap slow cars, despite having a few hot hatches here and there. Thanks to these cars, there are finally kei cars that can just so the basics of what a sports car should do. Just like the holy trinity, these cars are not the same, they have their own characteristics, but they all serve the same purpose, and here is to give a full sports car experience in the kei car market.

I’m back with another Kei Cars in Depth, and this week’s topic is Suzuki. Suzuki is well known in the kei car world. Although Suzuki makes one of the most boring cars in the world, a few back-to-basic hot hatches, Suzuki is well known for making cool hot kei cars in Japan. Not just performance ones, but also 4x4s and a few weird designs, even though I’m not going to discuss a few of those here. So let’s get starting.

I’m back with another Kei Cars in Depth. This time, let’s discuss about Mazda ( and Autozam ) and Subaru. They have nothing in common, and they’re not both very well known on making kei cars, but that doesn’t mean they don’t make some which are not worth mentioning for. Each manufacturers have their own uniqueness, both in design and engineering. So let’s get on with the cars. First up it’s Subaru’s hot twins.

Honestly the boot opening is extremely cool, but why did it die? Was it too expensive? Or not reliable? Btw if anybody knows how heavy the system is, I’ll be glad to know.

When you hear “Honda S-Series”, most of you will think will think about the S2000. But way before the S2000, even before the first S-Series Honda, the S500, there was one car, and it’s called the S360. And as with most S-Series, the numbers stands for its displacement. And yes, this car has a 360cc engine. At first the S360 was aimed for the Kei car territory, which would have been Japan’s first kei sports car, but sadly Honda didn’t sell it.

That’s the maximum angle I can get. The outer wheel ( in this picture, the left wheel ) can only be improved with a longer servo arm which I don’t have. I’m still waiting for my new servo mount so I can test the car..

I like many cars in this world, from classic chargers to smart cars to the Mclaren P1, but there’s 1 car that has been taking my heart for the past few years, and it’s the Daihatsu Copen. More specifically the 1st generation JDM version. Crazy, somehow this 63hp 660cc kei car can take my heart with it. To some, the Copen is just a tiny underpowered “gay” ( according to Clarkson ) car. But there are good reasons why I love the Copen so much.

Many of you guys may never heard about these toys. They are called the Choro-Q. First introduced in 1980 by Takaratomy ( previously known as Tomy ), it is one of the cutest toys you can get today. They all have shortened body and most of them have bigger rear wheels ( except for the smart car ). All are powered by pullback motors. Most of them are Japanese cars, but Choro-Q also makes many european and a few american cars.

So, why do I want to talk about this warm hatchback? It’s not fast. It has barely any reputation in the petrolhead world, and it’s only available in Japan. Well it’s because, I’ve been driving the standard 1.2l version of it, and I quite love it. The one that I’m driving has 80hp from it’s N/A 1.2l. This one has 1.5 liter N/A. By the way my dad also own a 1.5 liter N/A nissan, the engine code is the same with the NISMO S March, but it’s tuned to boost more horses. They say the camshaft is tuned, the compression ratio is made higher, the ECU is tuned, and the exhaust is also tuned.
