Is Porsche About To Make A 928 Successor?

You can’t help but feel sad that the legendary Porsche 928 was never replaced. The Panamera may be a kinda/sorta successor, but unless it’s a coupe, it just doesn’t count, does it?

However, it looks like the 928 is about to be resurrected properly for a 2019 debut, reports Auto Bild. Panamera-based test mules have been spotted already, sporting what look to be ‘false’ rear doors. The German publication admits the name is a matter of “pure speculation” at this point - Porsche may not choose ‘928’ for the name, perhaps opting for ‘929’ instead.

The likes of the BMW X6 and Mercedes GLC coupe are among the most nonsensical of all SUVs, but that doesn’t stop people buying the things. Porsche’s take on this weirdly successful SUV sub-genre is expected to appear later in the year.

No prizes for guessing which of these two future Porsches has a place in our fantasy garage…
