Today's community question: Which car manufacturers produced one hit wonders?
When the majority of manufacturers start out, they tend to put all of their eggs in one basket, hoping that the success of their first car will bring them long-term viability. Unfortunately, that approach doesn’t always work out.
When the majority of manufacturers start out, they tend to put all of their eggs in one basket, hoping that the success of their first car will bring them long-term viability. Unfortunately, that approach doesn’t always work out. Take the Light Car Company (LCC), founded in 1993 by Gordon Murray and Chris Craft.
The company’s only model was the brilliant single-seater Rocket. It was 130kg lighter than the Caterham Seven Superlight, it featured an innovative tubular frame chassis, and it had the performance to shame full-blown supercars. Unfortunately, the car was released just before the track-day car boom. It was, in other words, ahead of its time. As a result the company only managed to sell 33 Rockets, and in 1998, LCC closed its doors.
Unfortunately, LCC isn’t the only company to shut its doors after producing one brilliant machine, so we want to know: What other car manufacturers produced one hit wonders?
