I would say Volvo 142 with its b20 wich is one of the most reliable engines in the world. The tuning capability is also quit good because of the almost unbreakable engineblock.

Old BMWs with M52 or M54 engines. These were real tough machines back then.

Idk man.. my Mazda Lantis 323, got a 1.8L. I can floor it and get to 60, it will take a while but i will get there.. it works, dosen’t drink to much of patrol.. so i guess it’s kinda iconic?
