What's your favourite engine that can't be found in a car?
I was recently talking to one of our freelancers about 1000bhp wood-chippers (as you do), and it got me wondering about other non-car things that have big-power engines.
I was recently talking to one of our freelancers about 1000bhp wood-chippers (as you do), and it got me wondering about other non-car things that have big-power engines. Then Brittany Ferries released a (frankly bizarre) press release boasting about how its ferries have four 12-cylinder engines making 65,000bhp, and I felt like I wanted to know more.
So, what are your suggestions for cool, big engines found outside the car world?

GE90’s ! 127900 pound-force, 568.9 kN worldrecord holder, paired able to go 13400 miles w/o fueling. More then 1500 produced, billions of miles traveled, only 1 recorded direct engine failure. One of these in my backyard please, just to piss off my neighbors.
The Daimler-Benz DB 601. Powering the famous Messerschmitt Bf. 109, it had up to 1500 bhp, and sounded like an absolute dream.
Oh, and for modern-day engines, my absolute favorite non-car engine is the Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 powering the 787.

Where to start: Rolls Royce Merlin, EMD 20-710 (large 2 stroke diesel), RR Olympus 593 (Concorde engine), Rocketdyne F-1
any 2 stroke engine from a dirt bike, powerful, sounds awesome, and easy to work on one, im rebuilding one right now!
PW150a
5000hp
Well, stuff like the P51 Mustang, or BF109 as posted are some serious contenders, but, I think I’m going to have to stick with the 18-cylinder Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp radial found in the F4U Corsair from WWII. Aka, “Whistling Death”.
