10 Best On-Track Battles From The Formula 1 2014 Season
F1 fans have been treated to some stunning on-track action this season, with plenty of close and exciting battles. Here are our favourites from Formula 1 in 2014:
This battle rumbled on all race, with Lewis Hamilton eventually finishing ahead of his team-mate Nico Rosberg, despite being on the slower tyre compound.
Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso’s fight for fifth place started well before the above GIF. It was great to see two multiple world champions showing some of the more erratic drivers (cough Pastor Maldonado cough) how it is done.
Kimi Raikkonen put up a fight against his team-mate Alonso at the penultimate round of the season in Brazil.
4. Ricciardo vs. Alonso in Germany
Daniel Ricciardo was undoubtedly the best racer of the season, putting in some incredible overtakes and great defensive driving, including his scrap with Alonso in Germany.
5. Ricciardo vs. Hamilton in Hungary
This brave and gutsy move at the Hungaroring - where it is notoriously tricky to overtake - played a big part in Ricciardo winning the race.
Jenson Button and Sergio Perez both admitted after this fantastic scrap at Monza that it was tough but fair.
Button and Alonso were involved in a brilliantly close battle at the United States Grand Prix in Austin, Texas.
8. Hulkenberg vs. Magnussen in Monaco
Passing someone at the Circuit de Monaco’s Portier corner is very tricky, but Nico Hulkenberg proved that it can be done - and without contact - by overtaking Kevin Magnussen during the Monaco Grand Prix.
This point is just dedicated to Ricciardo’s brilliant overtaking at the Italian Grand Prix, particularly his move on Vettel at turn three (which is at the end of the video above)
10. Ricciardo vs. Alonso in Texas
Earlier in the United States Grand Prix, Alonso was overtaken in spectacular style by Ricciardo at turn one.
