10 Cars With Bonkers Front-End Swaps
1. Honda Accord/BMW E46 3-series
An image of this curious beast was posted on Discuss recently, inspiring us to put together this list. No, it’s not a Honda engine Photoshopped into the bay of an E46, this is an E46 3-series front end grafted onto a Honda Accord.
Sticking the front-end of the legendary R34 Nissan Skyline GT-R onto a humble CRV is a surefire way to anger pretty much every JDM fan out there, but this thing has substance. It’s running a B18C VTEC engine with 500bhp, which is sent to all four wheels. Fast troll is fast.
3. Ford F-150/Jaguar S-Type
Of all the Jags to graft onto the front of a big American pickup, the ungainly S-Type is probably the worst choice. Kill it, kill it with fire.
4. Ford Ranger/Ford Mustang
Sticking with the pickup theme, here’s a front-end conversion that makes a little more sense. Dubbed the ‘Muskrat’, this Ford Ranger/fourth-gen Mustang combination surfaced on eBay a few years ago, and was at the time powered by a 400bhp 351-cubic inch V8.
5. Toyota Soarer/Nissan R34/Holden Monaro mash-up
When we spotted this mad creation back in 2013, we weren’t sure whether to applaud it or be sick. It’s a Toyota Soarer underneath, with both a front and rear swap: it’s wearing the face of an R34 Skyline GT-R, and the derrière of a Holden Monaro. Call it what you want, it’s most certainly unique…
6. Chevrolet S10 Blazer/BMW M3/BMWX5
This Chevy Blazer - featured on Truckin a few years ago - almost looks as though it was designed to provoke a strong reaction. It’s a blend of BMW M3 and X5 bits at the front (including an X5 bonnet and M3 bumper) with a set of Lambo-style doors and 22-inch rims to crank the controversy level far beyond 9000.
7. Chevrolet Colorado/BMW E46 330i
You could argue this is more back-end swap than front-end, but it’s so well executed we had to get it in here. From the B pillars forward it’s a salvaged BMW E46 330i, which has been grafted onto the pickup bed of a Chevy Colorado. Check out the build thread here.
8. Subaru Impreza WRX/Saab 9-2x
How do you make the quirky curiosity that is the Saab 9-2x even weirder? By affixing the front-end to an example of the Subaru Impreza WRX upon which it’s based, of course.
9. VW Corrado/MkIV Golf
We like to think that we can keep an open mind when it comes to crazy car modifications, but slapping the bulbous front-end of a MkIV VW Golf - a conversion that’s been done a few times before - onto a Corrado seems a little ill advised.
10. Nissan 350Z/Nissan GT-R
Finally, we have another GT-R front-end swap, this time with Godzilla’s mug surgically implanted on a 350Z. We spotted this car at Japfest last year, and while not everyone will be a fan, you have to admire the brilliant fit and finish.
