10 Video Game Race Tracks You'll Never Forget
1. Forza’s Rally di Positano
Full of gorgeous views of a semi-fictional Northern Italy, this track is as varied as it is beautiful. It is chocked full of blind turns, jumps and pavement changes along the Amalfi Coast. Despite the slightly troublesome areas, this course is actually quite nice and makes for an easy rally run.
This fictional Gran Turismo course is highly technical through its many hairpin turns but also exhilarating in the straights. It’s a night city course where the lights and shadows add to its beauty and distraction. This video seems ancient, but it definitely kicks up some good old memories.
3. Nürburgring
The Green Hell is a demanding course, with altitude changes, curves and little room for error. This unforgiving track is not for beginners, but once you master it you have bragging rights forever. Since it is such a long course, not many people have the persistence to keep practicing. If you already know your fastest time on the Nürburgring then you are a true virtual racing fanatic.
Colin McRae DiRT fans can appreciate the insane skills needed to finish this run. You have to be incredibly confident in your abilities and keep up your speed through the never-ending curves and hairpins. Check out this video that will leave you saying “Wow. Very hill climb. Much turn.”
5. Rainbow Road
No matter how old you were when you first raced it or what Nintendo system you were playing, I’ll bet you remember racing on Rainbow Road. With no barriers to keep you on the track, the simple layout turns into a challenge.
Hitting high speeds is a rush on the super-narrow streets of the Citta Di Aria. If you can do a clean overtake without putting yourself into a wall or run an entire race without clipping the edges, you are a god.
7. GT4’s Ice Arena
The Ice Arena puts you to the test with your steering and control. Even though it’s a short course without many hard turns, the obvious difficulty factor is the snow. It can be hard to overtake and maintain good control.
Those darn chicanes! If it wasn’t for the chicanes and the blocked vision from the city’s building, this track wouldn’t be on this list. It’s a high speed, tight track with barriers all around. There is room for overtaking opponents, but it must be done carefully as there isn’t much time to correct steering before the next turn pops up.
9. Spa-Francorchamps
This track begins with just a short distance from the start line to La Source, the first hairpin turn. Then it’s downhill until its most famous point, Eau Rouge. This is an uphill right turn leading into a blind left turn at the crest. The variety of altitude, straights and curves on this course make it rather fun and addictive.
This beautiful Californian track seems like it would be a cinch to most, but once they drive it everything changes. If you’ve raced Laguna Seca you must remember The Corkscrew, one of the most challenging set of turns in motorsport. You go left through the first turn, immediately drop downhill and enter the right turn before you know it.
