The 1100bhp Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR Pro Can Race Upside-Down
Feast your eyes on the unique, astonishing Aston Martin hypercar that can match a modern F1 car for performance. The Valkyrie AMR Pro has finally been unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show by Red Bull Racing team boss Christian Horner and ace designer Adrian Newey, after news first surfaced four months ago.
With a 6.5-litre V12 hybrid powertrain sending over 1100bhp to the wheels, and the ability to generate over a metric tonne of downforce, this track-only evolution of the Valkyrie is a pretty sensational headline act for Aston’s show stand.
Just 25 will be built, and naturally they’re all sold. Damn. We’ll just have to wait for the first YouTube footage to emerge, of customers trying their new racecar out for the first time, or maybe even Red Bull’s F1 drivers getting behind the wheel.
Unveiled next to the 2018 Red Bull Racing Formula One show car, meaning it doesn’t have any of this season’s trick new aerodynamic bits on it, the Valkyrie AMR Pro steals the show. It weighs 1000kg but can produce more than its own weight in downforce – theoretically suggesting it could drive upside-down…
Wider bodywork and larger front and rear wings help produce the additional pressure, in tandem with “revised aerodynamic control strategies.” Weight is cut by dumping the heater and fan assembly, fitting a heated polycarbonate windscreen and side windows, carbonfibre suspension wishbones and lightweight moulded bucket seats.
The bodywork is all new, made from a lighter type of carbonfibre. Aston has also replaced the exhaust for the AMR Pro version, shedding further pounds and permitting an even freer-breathing setup.
Aerodynamics expert Newey is clearly impressed with his work. He said:
“The Aston Martin Valkyrie road car draws extensively from the knowledge I have gained during my career in Formula One, but the AMR Pro version has allowed me to work beyond the constraints of road legality, or indeed practicality!
“We’ve told a few of its secrets, but by no means all. I will leave it to the public to ponder the lap time predictions. Suffice it to say they’re quite impressive.”
Aww, come on, guys, don’t leave us hanging…
