12 Awesome Spring Updates And Reveals For Your Favourite Racing Games
Even the gaming community acknowledges that spring is new beginnings. Check out what’s new with Assetto Corsa, GTA V, Forza 6 and more of the CT community favourites. It’s going to be a great season for racing!
1. DiRT 3
If you own DiRT 3, you may now upgrade free to the DiRT 3 Complete edition. If you purchased the game through Steam, it will appear in your games list. Just install, and you’re ready to go. If you purchased it from Games for Windows Live or the boxed game, you can now use the game key to download the complete Edition free in Steam. There’s a catch though: your saved progress isn’t transferable to the new game. Time to get to work.
The April World of Speed wallpaper can now be downloaded from the official game page. Also, visit its page to register for the beta tests. WOS is a free-to-play racing simulator from Slightly Mad Studios (Project CARS) and My.com.
3. Automation
The team behind Automation announced it will be moving to Unreal Engine 4 by the end of the year, resulting in better graphics and more capabilities. Some new V6 engines are in the works, and we should be seeing those soon.
Rockstar recently found a very appropriate way of dealing with cheaters in the online mode. Anyone who has found a way to cheat the game by driving the story mode Duke O’Death car in the online mode will now find that the car explodes when they get inside it.
More importantly, GTA V is finally coming to PC! The release date is 14 April, but it can be preloaded on 7 April worldwide. The game will run at 60fps, and looks more stunning than ever. Remember, anyone who pre-ordered the game will receive an extra $200,000 in-game cash to use in GTA Online.
All that anticipation for the heavily delayed Project CARS has been building, and the developing studio has announced a ‘thank you’ gesture in recognition of this. A free car will be added to the game each month, starting with the Lykan Hypersport, which you may recognise from Furious 7. UK gamers will have a chance to play Project CARS 8-12 April by visiting the Stuff magazine booth at the Gadget Show Live at Birmingham NEC.
6. iRacing
The International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) is the newest partner of iRacing. The SportCar Championship is a North American series featuring Prototypes and GT cars. To celebrate the occasion, an 80 per cent discount can be used for new members with the promo code PR-IMSA2015.
7. F1 2015
The release date of 12 June has been announced for PC, PS4 and Xbox One, marking the first time the series is available on next-gen consoles. Codemasters has promised the game can be played as either the 2014 or 2015 season. The team cars will not all be released at once, so new content is expected to be released throughout the remainder of the year as free DLC.
The free-to-play Brazilian racing game, Copa Petrobas de Marcas, will soon be available for download through Steam. Developed by Reiza Studios, the game was released in November 2014 and is based on the popular South American touring car racing series. If you can’t wait until the Steam release, download it now here.
9. Forza 6
The Forza game series has always worked closely with Top Gear, but what will happen now? Microsoft is not ready to answer that question, saying “Over the years, Top Gear has been a great partner of Forza Motorsport license, and we have the opportunity to provide further information about Forza Motorsport 6 later.” There will be plenty of time to figure it out, as the game is scheduled for release in late 2015.
10. Need For Speed World
Through 9 April, anyone who plays NFS World online can compete in the Cherry Blossom Community Goal Event. Just log in during the event and drive an Asian car to complete as many Circuit, Sprint, Team Escape, or Drag events as possible. New content will be released for purchase with in-game cash for collectively completing up to 5.2 million events.
11. Assetto Corsa
A recent Facebook post from Assetto Corsa teases the GT-R to come soon. Perhaps part of the Dream Pack 2? An official license deal has also been struck for the Mercedes-AMG GT3.
12. DriveClub
DriveClub players were treated to a free Motorstorm Buggy as an April Fool’s day download. The buggy is rumoured to be part of the soon-to-be released ‘Lunatics Expansion Pack’.
Other Announcements
RaceRoom Racing Experience, the free to play simulator, has just released a game update. Along with other new features, players can now create their own championships with their favourite cars and tracks.
Forza Horizon 2’s Fast and Furious Edition is available for download. The free download promotion has ended, but the extension can be purchased for a small price.
The Crew is offering a half off Easter sale through GameStop. Unfortunately, the promotion is not valid for PC downloads.
Auto Club Revolution (ACR) has recently released three new Facebook cover images for download. There is also a teaser post on its page for a ‘big announcement’ coming next week. We hope it’s time to bring the public beta online.
