The 15 Craziest Tuned Cars Of 2013

We take a look at the most insanely tuned cars we featured in 2013

Picture-122 (1)

Last year (2013) was a strong year for performance cars. We saw the hypercar battle return with the Porsche 918, Ferrari LaFerrari and McLaren P1 trio taking headlines. But it wasn't just a good year for manufacturers; car tuners were also hard at work eking every last horsepower from some of the world's coolest cars.

In honour of these crazy tuned cars, we've compiled a list of our favourite modified motors that we all loved most in 2013.

1. Evil turbocharged Stingray

If you took a look through our round-up of the most popular car stories of 2013, you'll know that the video of a turbo-wielding Stingray went down pretty well with you guys. Unfortunately we didn't get to see it in full flow, so Hennessey appeased us with this 200mph flyby in his own modded Stingray. Rapid.

2. Supercar-slaying 762bhp Saab 9-5

This unassuming saloon is one of our favourite quirky modified cars of the year. Under the hood you'll find the standard engine, which has been modified to within an inch of its life to produce 762bhp - through the front wheels! It'll wheelspin from 60-100mph so it must be an absolute pig to drive; just look at the way the owner fights to keep it in a straight line.

3. 870hp Evo with 11,000rpm redline

This frankly ridiculous Evo gets from 60mph to 120mph in only 4.59sec and hits 11,000rpm at 14psi boost. Staggering numbers, we're sure you'll agree, but if you're not yet impressed check out the video and prepare to fall in love.

4. 850hp Honda Integra is a drag strip hero

We freakin' adore this Integra. Not only does it look badass, but it's front-wheel drive and produces 950hp. There's something inherently cool in making 'wrong' work - it's what makes the 911, with it's rear-engined setup, so appealing. Taking this 'Teg down the quarter mile in 8.6 seconds deserves serious kudos.

5. AWD Mk2 Golf sleeper packs 1150bhp

The first car in our list to break the 1000bhp barrier is also probably the ultimate sleeper. This Mk2 Golf wears fairly unassuming clothes - it has no crazy paintjob, no rude-boy bodywork, and a fully stocked interior. Don't let that fool you though, this thing absolutely tears up tarmac, and will spin the wheels up to 200kph thanks in part to a massive turbo.

6. 1192hp M5-powered E30

When we first featured this insane E30 M3, we thought it had a 2JZ engine. Turns out we were wrong, but the car's owner was more than happy to give us the true stats. An M5 engine, bored out to 4.0-litres and strapped to a turbo resulted in a whopping 1192bhp.

An honourable mention of course to this Supra-engined M3 we featured tearing up the Nurburgring. This one's just a little underpowered by comparison, at only 1100bhp!

7. World's fastest Mk1 Polo

At just 800kg, pretty much any power hike will do wonders to a Polo. So chucking a 3.3-litre engine inside, then strapping a whopping great turbo to it will turn your shopping cart into a pocket rocket from hell. That's exactly what these guys did, getting 1200bhp and a 1/4-mile time of just 8.5 seconds. Insanity!

8. Twin-turbo Viper with 1400bhp

This Viper's 8.0-litre V10 gets a pair of turbos and some other gubbins to produce 1400bhp. What's more, it looks superbly sinister and completes its dyno run with minimum fuss. That much power never looked so effortless.

9. 1500bhp Skyline hits 62mph in 1.2sec

When you've got 1500bhp at your disposal, the hardest thing is getting the power down and making the most of it. This Skyline has absolutely no trouble with this. If you've ever wondered what 0-62mph in 1.2 seconds looks like, wonder no more. In the words of doge: wow.

10. Tuned Ultima GTR packs 1700bhp

Ultima is a kit-car company based in the UK. Its GTR model gets a 720bhp Chevy V8 that catapulted it to an unofficial Top Gear lap time of 1min 12.8secs. That wasn't enough for these Americans, who bestowed an extra 1000bhp upon it, thanks to a twin-turbo 7.0-litre V8 running on race fuel. And it weighs less than a Ferrari 458.

11. 1800whp GT-R is a 1/4-mile destroyer

When you're completing the 1/4-mile in sub-eight second runs, you know things are pretty serious, but if you wanted further proof this GT-R is a serious bit of kit: the team at AMS Performance don't actually know the exact power figures, as they're worried it'll break their equipment should they dyno it. Best guesses put it around 1800whp, and acceleration so quick the speedo can't keep up!

12. World record-beating 1850bhp Gallardo

Coming in at the very end of the year, this Gallardo jumped high up the list. Featured this week, the Gallardo broke the record for a standing mile, coming in at just 20.845 seconds at 254mph. What more do we need to say? Just watch!

13. 2200bhp dyno-ripping Saleen S7

This was the fourth most popular story from 2013, racking up an incredible 113,494 page views and 12,029 shares on Facebook. It's easy to see why; if the 1800whp GT-R's owners are worried about what their car will do to the dyno, here's a little preview. This Saleen tries its hardest to tear itself from the many tethers holding it in place.

14. 2600bhp 'Dirty Bird' Ford Falcon

When this Ford Falcon was conceived in 1968, 2600hp was probably the stuff of fantasy. These guys in Texas made it a reality. With two 88mm turbos strapped to a 7.4-litre engine, it's perhaps no surprise it's quite rapid. And just check out those blowers, all out on display like some sort of top-shelf imagery. We like it. We like it alot...

15. 5000hp Devel Sixteen

If it wasn't so hilariously rubbish, the Devel Sixteen wouldn't even be worth adding to this list. Whether it's the 'expensive' panels and accents that are clearly attached with nothing more than sticky tape, or the 10mph flyby provided as 'proof', the Sixteen continues to amuse us. We'd love to be proved wrong, but we suspect we won't...
