186.3 Reasons Why The Prius Is Crap

“Prius. Pleasing unambitious 40-somethings since 1997.”

That should be the slogan that Toyota uses for its hybrid n00b-mobile, but it’s not. Instead, Toyota tells us that the car is….you know what, no-one actually cares so we’ll stop wasting words.

That isn’t to say, however, that all hybrids make you want to self-harm. The Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid is a good example of bucking the trend. But not just any Jetta will do. We’re talking here of the Land Speed Record (LSR) model, which has just smashed the record as fastest hybrid production car with an average of 186.313mph.

The rules are simple. Take a production car with an engine no more than 1.5-litres in size, tune the balls out of the thing (around 300bhp should do it), slam it, strip it, roll cage it, and hey presto, you’re good to go for a recorded hoon on the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah. That’s in America, apparently.

Then all you need to do is bask in the glory that you’ve made the Prius look that bit more 'crap'.
