A 1M Replica With The E60 M5's V10 Heart Is The Perfect BMW
Both the BMW 1M and E60 M5 are hailed as motoring legends, so when German tuner TJ Fahrzeugdesign took the heart of the M5 and the body of a 1M replica 1-series coupe to create this ‘M CSL TJ,’ the results were always going to be staggering.
Harnessing 547bhp from a modified version of the E60 M5’s V10, this 1-series - once a low-spec 118d - can accelerate from 0-62mph in under four seconds and onto a top speed of 186mph. As if it wasn’t enough of a screamer already, engineers raised the rev-limit to an ear-tingling 8800rpm and added a carbonfibre air box, whilst BMW’s own SMG gearbox was used to ensure changes were swift enough to shove the 1M replica from 0-124mph in under 12 seconds.
Unsurprisingly, changes go deeper than the body and drivetrain; with axles, suspension, wheels and brakes all uprated to match the 1M replica’s more potent performance. M3 CSL seats, a carbon roof and various carbon fittings such as the splitter contribute to the car’s CSL tag. This also helps keep weight down to 1575kg, 52 per cent of which sits over the front axle.
Creating such a weapon comes at quite a cost, however. Excluding the purchase price of the car, the conversion came to an eye-watering €85,000 (£70,000). Still, that doesn’t stop us wanting one.
This isn’t the first time TJ Fahrzeugdesign has done this conversion. In the video below the tuners demonstrate what looks to be a near-identical 1M replica, this car being based on the 123d but also undergoing a heart transplant with an M5’s V10.
