1st Draft Of "The Fast And The Furious" Script Is An Interesting Read.
I came across this while looking for some dialogue quotes for a thing I’m working on, and ended reading the whole damn script because I have a black belt in procrastination.

It gets interesting because some of the movies dialogue is a actually better in the first draft. For example, when Dom beats Brian in a much different race the term “granny shifting” isn’t used.
Wait. Thinking about it I’m not so sure “over clutching, watching the shiftlight, not double footing like you should” is much of a thing either.
Also in this script Dominic Turetto’s car is a Buick Regal rather than a Dodge Charger, VInce loses his arm in the last heist and Jesse is kidnapped at the end instead of assassinated.
Finally, for the drag race finally Brian is driving a Nissan 240SX and it ends on a cliffhanger rather than a spectacular crash and dialogue smothered in macho cheese.
The first movie has become car cultures equivalent of The Rocky Horror Picture show in it’s flamboyancy and way over the top quotability factor, so reading through the original draft is quite the curiosity if you’re a fan.
You can find the whole script here to read.

Strange that it was originally a Buick Regal, because Dom does eventual drive a Regal in the 4th movie.
I like the 240sx part.. xD
yeah like there would be any chance that a 240sx could compete with a Charger :D
Also he had a Supra in the first race and not that Eclipse.
The first draft of the script was so much better… Still cheesy and at times nonsensical, but better.
I read this for a couple of months ago also looking for quotes.
Didn’t know that the Eclipse replaced the Supra in the beginning. Kinda good because I just can’t see the Supra getting replaced.
Maybe if they stayed with the script, 240SX’s might be worth a fortune now.
“Bright green Supra with Arizona plates” so thats why the movie cover has a green Supra instead of the orange one!
I wish that a few pieces would have been kept
It sounds like something out of Initial D.
All it needs is some muffled eurobeat in the distance.
They skipped the part were he shifts up 17 times.
