Attack of the AMGs! Mercedes-Benz has been doing some freshening on its top end luxury and performance models, with the CL Coupe, CL63 and CL65 AMG getting updates over the past few weeks.

The S63 is the next to go under the knife, sporting some upgrades to the exterior and a new powerplant. It is the car closest to the top, with only the V-12 S65 sitting above it. That car is expected to be updated soon as well.

Changes in the S63 are all about the engine, beginning with a reduction in engine displacement - more for less. That is an equation we quite like!

The hand-built V-8 is a new direct-injected unit that take power output from the 518 horsepower figure of last year's model, to 571 horsepower.

Like the CL models, it also generates an insane amount of torque - to the tune of 663 pound-feet, produced between 2,250 and 3,750 rpm.The updated S63 hits 62 mph in just 4.5 seconds and the AMG Performance Package shaves that even further to 4.4 seconds.

All that power doesn't come at a cost to fuel efficiency either, as Mercedes pairs the engine with its 7-speed transmission and a start/stop system.

The car is part of Mercedes' “AMG Performance 2015? strategy, which is a promise to continuously reduce both the fuel consumption and emissions of new models, along with reaching new levels of performance.

While there isn't a whole lot of action, Mercedes has debuted this video demonstrating the new car and some of the changes.
