The 2015 Corvette Z06 Will Have A Supercar-Shaming 650hp And 650lb ft Of Torque

Conservative estimates had put the Z06's 6.2-litre supercharged V8 at 625hp, but it'll actually get an extra 25hp and incredible torque figures

When the Corvette Z06 first broke cover in January, leaked performance figures suggested it would have 625hp and 650lb ft of torque. It turns out those horsepower stats underplayed the final figure. The Z06 makes a whopping 650hp, and perhaps even more impressively, it’ll give 500lb ft of twist from just 1500rpm.

Those impressive figures come thanks to the 6.2-litre supercharged V8 LT4 engine, which provides massive power and torque gains over the mad old LS9 powerplant found in the C6 ZR1. Peak power comes in at 6400rpm, while peak torque comes in at 3600rpm. The torque curve is impressively flat, with 90 per cent of peak torque available between 2500rpm and 5400rpm.

It goes without saying that this thing will be unbelievable in a straight line, and will no doubt embarass much more expensive exotics, but it’s the prospect of the Z06 decimating its opponents in the corners that is perhaps most intriguing. We can’t wait to see it in action.
