The 2017 Camaro ZL1 Hits 60mph In First Gear
With development of the new Camaro ZL1 nearing its end, Chevrolet has announced some serious performance stats that will send reverberations through the muscle car world.
Producing 650bhp and a stupendous amount of torque, Chevy has proclaimed that the ZL1 can reach 60mph using just first gear in the six-speed manual option. A 10-speed automatic gearbox is available but we much prefer the thought of taking the Dodge Viper on at its own game.
Considering that the previous generation car made the sprint to 60mph in four seconds with a meagre 580bhp and 100kg extra weight, the brand new car should dip well into the three-second club. Despite the launch of the more-powerful Ford Mustang GT500 being on the horizon, the Camaro will be another addition to the influx of super-muscle cars in the current market.

Mabey I’m Being stupid, but I don’t find this impressive. I mean my father’s heavy duty pickup truck will do 45 in first. 15mph isnt that much.
Not bad from the future muscle car
C6 Z06 did that 10 years ago
60mph in first, 650 HP is fine, but an R34 is wayyy off limits? Dafuq?
It’s nothing about power, all about not slamming the R34 into a wall repeatedly with a dummy in the driver’s seat.
Ok, so I’m here reading about these 650+ horsepower cars tha do 0-60 in less then 4 seconds and in first gear. That’s sounds great but less be honest about these high horsepower cars including the Ford GT which is also supercharged. Anyone can bolt on a supercharger and get huge power…no brainier. BUT how about high horsepower naturally aspirated production cars?
Listen up and do your research. In 1990 (26 years ago!) Chevrolet built the naturally aspirated 4 cam, 32 valve ZR1. No it’s not quite as fast as the modern supercharged cars BUT it put out 375 then 405 hp and did 0-60 in first gear and at 4.3 seconds! It outran and out handled every production car produced including the Ferrari, Lamborghini, And Porsche! It had almost twice the horsepower then then standard Vette, meet all gas guzzler standards, EPA standards, and got great gas mileage.
These cars are still around today and it isn’t uncommon for the untouched engine to have over 200k miles and still running flawlessly! SO….who’s behind on technology now? This 26 year old car can still run (not outrun) with the big boys and also do 181 miles per hour! That my friends is technology! Oh yeah, did I mention that ITS NOT SUPERCHARGED!,
Wow. No pushrods? That’s crazy. What was the displacement?
I love the GMC Syclone of all the 90s GM vehicles.
its because its red …red cars go the fastest
