The current Dodge Charger Pursuit is already one of the meanest looking patrol cars in the USA, and now, FCA has made it a little more clever.

Teaming up with Californian firm InterMotive Inc, FCA has announced it’ll supply all forces with 2017 Charger Pursuits an ‘Officer Protection Package’ security device free of charge.

It plugs into the OBDII port, and is designed to “prevent an officer from being ambushed from the rear while parked,” according to Jeff Kommor, FCA’s vice president of fleet operations. To do that, it works with the parking sensors and a rear-facing camera, and will sound an alert if someone is detected behind the car.

Simultaneously, the doors will lock, the front windows roll up, and the tail lights flash. It could be quite annoying if it’s set off by accident, but it also has the potential to save officers from injury or even death when they’re vulnerable.

You have to look at them. If you’re doing any work, you can’t be looking at the mirrors constantly.

Because you can’t see everything with your mirrors, nor will you constantly be looking at them?

Since when do mirrors let you see through metal?

Almost all police vehicles have poverty spec wheels.

(Poverty Spec wheels are for extra traction when the chased racer/robber places down an oil slick)

Those wheels are perfect for police work. - You don’t want fancy alloys or rubber band tyres if you’ve possibly got to bump kerbs etc. That’s also why they have push bumpers instead of delicate bodykits, carbon canards, splitters etc.

Plus, it looks badass. - Especially to me as a Brit used to seeing diesel german rep-mobiles as cop cars. ;)

I actually researched this, they use steel wheels because they bend and cand be bent back unlike aluminum which cracks and is more expensive. So to keep price down and durability

Why not give them A HELLCAT CHARGER

Well, not every country is rich enough to spend 70 grand plus modifications on a freaking patrol car.

If you gave them a hellcat there would be no more street racing becuase they could catch up to everyone

Too expensive for a regular patrol car, and will piss of local tree huggers. However, for specialist police units, it would make sense
