The 4500hp Devel Sixteen Is One Step Closer To Reality

After a dyno test reportedly proved that the Devel's crazy V16 makes 4500 horsepower, the car has surfaced at the Dubai Motor Show with radically redesigned bodywork

Remember the Devel Sixteen monstrosity? The one that looked like it was made out of cardboard for a school project? Well, it’s back, and it’s angry.

It has made another appearance with massively modified bodywork at the 2017 Dubai Motor Show. The insane-sounding quad-turbo 12.3-litre V16, which hauls out over 4500 horses according to this dyno test, is still an option at the top of the range for people who’d like to die on a racetrack, but there are less silly versions, too.

Whereas the V16, at the crudest point of inception, is two V8s locked together, there are 2000-horsepower and 3000-horsepower versions of just one of the V8s. Yep, the entry-level Devel Sixteen (would it be called the Devel Eight?) has the power of two Bugatti Veyrons. Two.

All that power will take the 16-cylinder car to 310mph or more, we’re led to believe. As always, we’ll believe it when we see it. We can imagine that speed like that will make judging your braking points on track slightly trickier than usual…

Cornering might be awkward, too. It seems to lack crucial downforce at the back, even if it has ground-effect. If an old Koenigsegg CCX without a rear wing will spit The Stig off the Top Gear Track, a 4500-pony hypercar cobbled together in Dubai certainly will. At much, much higher speed.

Somehow the interior of the car is still under development. Devel doesn’t yet seem to be run with the kind of ruthless efficiency you find in most car makers. The interior looks surprisingly spacious at the moment, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves. The Devel may make all the power, but it’s still got everything to prove.

Odd question but would you guys consider a top speed run of this or the new Venom credible if it was done on non road legal tires? I’m still not sure if that would make a difference to the whole deal about tires not being able to handle 300+ mph but I know top fuel dragsters can reach 300+ mph in some races

12.3 L? That’s big enough to compare to semi truck engines, my goodness!

Getting that amount of horsepower out of a engine that big for a dyno test is not that hard.
But in reality it needs to run over longer periods of time.
Also I haven’t seen any pictures of a transmission which will work with that power or the tires that can withstand that speed.

This is still the biggest pile of bs ever to come out of the car world.

Wow my 420HP Corvette already loses traction from start on a moist day. Not sure how 5000HP will behave.
