I’ve made a similar post to this in the past, I’ll put a link to it later on in the post. Now let’s get to the nitty gritty…

Forget watching billionare jerks talk about which 7 figure hunk of carbon fiber is the best, cheap car challenges are where it’s at. Here’s why watching a BMW that’s on it’s last legs duke it out is better than watching a Porsche 918 Spyder drift around a pristine racetrack.

One: It’s Relatable

The amount of people who can afford to buy cheap cars far outweighs the people who are able to buy Lamborghinis and limited edition BMW’s. Making videos about cheap cars and modifications will yield a bigger audience than talking about which 1500 horsepower turbo kit is better for your brand new Lamborghini. With that in mind, it should come as no surprise that Youtube channels such as Mighty Car Mods and Roadkill are super popular. Heck, you could probably replicate many cheap car challenges with your friends, that makes it even better

Two: You Can Do Some Crazy Stuff In A Cheap Car

Imagine that your friend gave you an old beat down Nokia to call someone and another person gave you a brand new iPhone. You would feel less guilty about dropping the Nokia on the ground compared with the new iPhone. Cheap cars wear their dings and dents as a source of of pride from battle scars, not an embarrassing recent pimple on prom night. You can travel to Tierra Del Fuego or go rallycrossing and at the end of the day, no one’s crying over scratched paint.

Three: Car Modification

Often times people will modify their cars they have for a cheap car challenge, and that’s pretty cool. It’s more entertaining than just watching a dealer fresh Audi get driven around a bunch, waxed and then returned to sit in the sun on Main Street. The car mods could range from functional things like better tires to wacky like a cheap body kit or a flashy paint job. It’s more about having a good time with cheap car challenges.

Four: Breakdowns

Sometimes, everything going according to plan can get kind of boring. People who watch cheap car challenges can learn the easy way which cars are heaps of junk by watching other people break down in cheap cars frequently. The breakdowns may make you feel sorry for the driver of the car, the car itself or both; that or you can just laugh at their constant misfortune and failure (which is one purpose of the show Roadkill). It’s not always the adventures that you remember the most, sometimes it’s the misadventures.

Five: You Form A Bond With The Cars

I’m sure more people form a bond with their first car than a cool sports car that they got to test drive recently. Richard Hammond for example fell head over heels in love with an Opel Kadett driving in Botswana for Top Gear. Jeremy Clarkson has a respect for the Porsche 928 because it let him visit his father one last time before he passed on.

The cars in the challenges can be very memorable, the cars sometimes are a mirror or an extension of the driver.

I used to only like expensive supercars but I can now see the pros of having a cheap car. You can push it to the limit more often without fearing loss of license or a 6-figure sum.

When the first thing you notice in this picture is the carthrottle logo in the ‘stang’s indicator instead of what cars are there

We should have a Superbowl equivalent for cars, get TV ESPN coverage of 24h of LeMons, get big groups of car people, for example Roadkill or Grand Tour or Top Gear or Carthrottle or Jalopnik etc, that would make it really interesting. Off course it’s not all about the famous people, the good teams are the ones who can make the most out of the cheap cars lol.

No I won’t travel to Tierra Del Fuego anytime soon, they might throw eggs or rocks at my car even if my car wears a normal numberplate. I love my cars. Sorry.
