There seems to be an unwritten rule in the world of exotic, limited-run specials. And that rule is simple: missed out on the original one? Don’t worry, here’s a roadster version. Lamborghini did it with the Veneno, Pagani looks set to produce a Huayra BC convertible, a LaFerrari Spider is all but confirmed, and now Aston Martin has released this. Yep, it’s that Vantage GT12 Aston only made 100 of, only with no roof. But there’s a catch.

Unfortunately, this GT12 Roadster won’t be of any use for those who didn’t manage to snag a coupe: just one is being made at the request of a ‘private customer’ to Aston Martin’s ‘Q’ division.

So, what has this one presumably very rich individual bought him or herself? Pretty much the same car as the GT12 coupe is the answer, minus certain bits of aero such as the rear wing. Well, it’d look a bit daft on a convertible, wouldn’t it?

So, this means we’re looking at heavily revised suspension, a much wider track, significant weight savings over the standard V12 Vantage S Roadster, and the familiar 5.9-litre V12 turned up to 592bhp and mated to a seven-speed automated manual gearbox. No word on performance figures, but owing to the extra weight of the roadster, expect it to be ever so slightly slower.

There’s a titanium exhaust system too which - along with the lack of roof - means this is surely the best ever celebration of Aston’s soon-to-be-deceased naturally-aspirated V12. Shame they’re only making one, then…

It’s pretty, but the Vantage is now over 10 years old. I think its time has come.
