6 wagons that look immensely better than their sedan versions
Every car guy knows it’s not only about the looks of car that make owner happy. And while reliability, performance and comfort are generally our top priorities, we (at least I did!) pursue the ownership of car that fulfills all those requirements, but not only that – it has to look good.
Every car guy knows it’s not only about the looks of car that make owner happy. And while reliability, performance and comfort are generally our top priorities, we (at least I did!) pursue the ownership of car that fulfills all those requirements, but not only that – it has to look good. It has to make you turn your head around anytime you park it. Surely pro or semi-pro drivers will argue that it’s totally not about the visual aspects, but today I wanted to focus on the looks. I couldn’t personally drive a car that’s design doesn’t appeal to me, even if it was the fastest car around.
That’s why I made a list of cars that look unbelievably better in their wagon versions. And that makes them special. Yes it does, as usually wagons are considered as stereotypical middle-age daddy’s cars that looks dull. And it is actually right, just take a look at how BMW 3 series E36 looks in sedan and wagon:
BMW 3 series E36 Sedan
BMW 3 series E36 Wagon
No hard feelings E36 wagon owners!
This list however shows excellent exceptions from that, at least in my opinion. It’s all about the looks, reliability or performance steps aside this time. So let’s roll with it…
Lexus IS Sedan
Lexus IS Sportcross
Alfa Romeo 159 Sedan
Alfa Romeo 159 Wagon
Audi A6 C5 Sedan
Audi C5 Avant
Renault Laguna III Sedan
Renault Laguna III Wagon
Saab 9-5 II Sedan
Saab 9-5 II Sportcombi
Mitsubishi Lancer VII Sedan
Mitsubishi Lancer VII Wagon

I’m a huge sucker for wagons. I own a Mazda 6 wagon (GY), which, IMO, looks more sophisticated and classier than the sedan/hatch versions. And that Alfa 159 is just gorgeous in wagon form, too.
To this list I would add all generations of the Mazda 6, 9th gen Honda Civic estate (around 2014 model year) as compared to the euro hatch, current-gen Toyota Auris, Volkswagen Passat B8, C6 and C7 Audi A6, Dodge Magnum, Cadillac CTS-V (previous-gen), Opel Insignia, Mercedes CLS Shooting Brake, Ford Mondeo… I could go on and on :D
I have a completely opposite opinion, all these wagons looks terrible compared to the sedan versions
This thread is full of awful wagons.
can’t believe you called e36 wagon awful, what happened?! At least you agree with one :D
I didn’t even know is200 wagon existed. Looks pretty weird at first sight but it’s growing on me. I think the Audi RS 6 touring looks beast, and the Volvo wagons have always been a classic
Yeah it’s quite rare. I honestly haven’t even seen one with my own eyes though it’s really appealing. Audis look a bit boring and overhyped though rs’es are hell of machinery… Untill something breaks…
Renault Megane Sport Tourer VS Renault Fluence
looks nice though Fluence is a different model, isn’t it?
I just love the 2002 Mitsubishi Galant estate. Aggressive and pretty at the same time.
Check Legnum, it’s much better and has proper power engine
