7 Of The Coolest Camera Cars In The World
There are a lot of reasons not to like last year’s Need for Speed movie, but it’s intriguing to see how the film was made, particularly when it comes to these two very fast camera cars.
With a punchy turbocharged V8 and loads of room for crew and equipment, the Cayenne Turbo is the perfect sort of car to transform into a mobile camera rig.
The Mercedes ML has many of the Cayenne’s attributes, so is unsurprisingly a popular choice for a camera car conversion. This spectacular ML 63 AMG is run by the same company as the aforementioned Cayenne Turbo.
4. Ford Focus ST Camera Tracking Unit
A Focus ST has been turned into a camera car before, but we spotted this new version at the recent launch of the facelifted ST in Barcelona recently.
This one-off vehicle - built by Ford for its own filming activities - is based on the estate version of the Focus ST with a pickup-style conversion and a seat for the camera man on the bed.
5. Ford Fiesta ST Camera Tracking Unit
Since we’ve looked at Ford’s Focus ST camera car, it’d be rude not to feature its little brother, which has a similar pickup-style conversion.
6. Volvo XC60 pickup
Ford isn’t the only company with its own in-house camera car. Volvo runs this beast, which is an XC60 with a pickup conversion and an extended body and extra pair of wheels, giving a large platform for the cameraman.
A company called ‘Chase Car Inc.’ runs this incredible Panamera. Dubbed the ‘Fastest Camera Car In The World’, it hit 104mph in the test you can see above despite having the crane and camera on board, plus five people. Not bad.
