7 Weird Things We Saw At The Geneva Motor Show

From a giant lion to a Porsche Cayenne mutated beyond recognition, here are some of the stranger things revealed at Geneva!
7 Weird Things We Saw At The Geneva Motor Show

By now, you should now about most of the major 2018 Geneva Motor Show reveals. We had concepts like the GR Supra and Porsche Mission E Cross, wild track toys including the McLaren Senna GTR and Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR Pro, and production cars such as the Mercedes-AMG GT Four-Door.

But what about the weirder stuff? And we’re not just talking about the cars. Here are some of the more unusual things we saw during the first Geneva press day last week…

A car/quadcopter concoction

What you see above is the Pop.Up Next. The result of a joint venture between Italdesign, Audi and Airbus, the Pop.Up consists of a “fully electric and zero-emission modular system, designed to help resolve traffic congestion in large urban areas.”

There’s an electric drive unit at the bottom, with a detachable passenger ‘pod’ and a detachable quadcopter unit at the top, the idea being it can be adapted to how you fancy using it that day. An interesting vision of future transportation, if the whole air traffic control issue could be sorted…

Audi's 'cinema'

The Audi stand had a retro cinema vibe in places. No, we’re not sure why, but we admire the commitment to the theme - there was even a popcorn machine…

Geneva had plenty of bombastic reveals, but few were as memorable as Rimac’s. The firm brought along the ‘2Cellos’ duo - also from Croatia - who gave the C_Two a debut with a difference.

Just in case you forgot what Peugeot’s logo is supposed to be.

Startech's 'fixed' Land Rover Discovery

For a mere €809.20, German tuning company Startech - part of the Brabus Group - will centre the current Land Rover Discovery’s awkward offset number plate. The company first revealed this tailgate insert a few months ago, and the Geneva show gave us our first chance to see it in the flesh. The product provides the “Discovery of symmetry!” Startech says. Chuckle.

Sbarro 4x4+2

7 Weird Things We Saw At The Geneva Motor Show

Swiss designer Franco Sbarro has gained notoriety from bringing mad, dubiously-styled concepts to motorshows, and this year he didn’t disappoint. The latest thing created by Sbarro’s students is called the 4x4+2, and although you wouldn’t know it, there’s a Porsche Cayenne nestling somewhere under all that stuff. Details about the concept are extremely scarce, so we’ve no idea what the deal is with that extra set of wheels.

Everything on the Mansory stand

You almost have to admire the brashness of Mansory. From gigantic wings to weird marble finishes, the company’s Geneva stand was essentially sticking two fingers up to the concept of subtlety.

What was your favourite thing to come out of the Geneva show? Let us know in the comments!

The Sbarro looks like someone accidentally left the front bumper at the factory and then they just filled the space by cable tying a few odd bits of exhaust to the front.
