When you’re looking for an aero-clad sports car to rival a Porsche 911 GT3 RS, we’re doubtful Maserati will be one of the first to spring to your mind. However, one German tuner has introduced a new package aiming to take down the automotive masterpiece of its homeland.

DMC (nothing to do with DeLoreans, before you ask) has introduced a new ‘GT2’ package for the Maserati MC20 that sees power rise by 91bhp up to 712bhp. Those extra Italian horses and an extra 67lb ft of torque have been unlocked through a reworked ECU plus a stainless steel exhaust from another German supplier, ZESAD.

Its 0-62mph sprint drops by two-tenths to 2.7 seconds as a result, with a top speed ‘beyond’ 200mph quoted - mind you, the stock coupe does 202mph.

Carbon fibre aero elements have been bolted onto the MC20, which DMC says are functional rather than just for show, and have been developed following FIA safety guidelines. These include a front lip, extended side skirts, a new diffuser plus a rear wing measuring 175cm wide.

Interior changes can be made for the package as well, with DMC describing it as a “canvas of luxury” that customers can spec however they want. Even crocodile skin, according to the press release.

Gregor Hans Schoener, DMC chief executive officer, said: “DMC’s dedication to pushing the boundaries of luxury car refinement is exemplified in our MC20 GT2. This creation encapsulates our passion for innovation and our relentless pursuit of perfection.”

Just five of the DMC GT2 packages will be produced, and one can be yours for $24,888 (approx. £19,500). One has been sold already though, with the car pictured here put together for the first customer in Hong Kong. Someone’s playing the new upcoming Test Drive Unlimited game in real life, seemingly.
