8 Awesome Cars From Non-Racing Games
1. Banshee (Grand Theft Auto)
The Grand Theft Auto series has always been one of the most fun non-racing games any petrolhead could play thanks to the fact there are loads of different cars available, an open world to explore, and the potential for customisation.
The GTA car we all aspired to steal was the Banshee. Loosely inspired by the Dodge Viper, it’s good looking, ridiculously quick, and a bit of a handful to control.
2. Zusume R (Watch Dogs)
Much like GTA, Watch Dogs features cars inspired by real-life vehicles. That’s what makes the Zusume R so cool - it looks like a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution.
The R model is an AWD performance variant of the standard Zusume saloon car. Sound familiar?
3. Genki Manapult (Saints Row)
The Saints Row series evolved into one of the most insane games ever created, and this vehicle is the perfect embodiment of that madness. The Manapult sucks up pedestrians, then fires them from the roof-mounted cannon. Of course…
Despite featuring some questionable driving mechanics, Crazy Taxi was a ridiculously addictive game. Oh, and the soundtrack was absolutely brilliant!
This little fella will cause a severe case of nostalgia for many of you. A puzzle game for kids, it has kept many a young child occupied for hours!
6. Oshkosh M977 Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck (Metal Gear Solid)
This 10-tonne 8x8 truck was nicknamed ‘Dragon Wagon’. Thanks to having all the wheels it could traverse pretty much any terrain, while the 12.1-litre 445bhp diesel engine ensured you’d never be left wanting for forward motion.
7. VDV Buggy (Battlefield 4)
The VDV Buggy is a go-anywhere vehicle with high speed and room for a gunner on the back. A truly great all-rounder.
8. Warthog (Halo)
Possibly the most iconic gaming vehicle of all time, the AMG Transport Dynamics M12 Light Reconnaissance Vehicle (or Warthog for short) features prominently in the Halo series.
It holds a driver and a gunner, as well as a passenger for a little extra firepower. Its agility and versatility made it an essential weapon during firefights on open terrain, and is crucial to the final act of Halo: Combat Evolved.
