8 RWD Supercars That Are Slower Around The Nurburgring Than The New Civic Type R
Still think front-wheel drive is 'wrong' wheel drive? Yes, FWD has its flaws, but modern technology has proved that anything is possible with a little know-how
Yesterday Honda revealed that a pre-production version of its new Civic Type R had lapped the Nurburgring in a staggering 7m 50s. In the face of the usual front-wheel drive hate, we decided to take a look at the rear-wheel drive cars it’s faster than. Sure, these cars are all older, but they’re all still legitimate performance cars. Proof that rear-wheel drive isn’t the be all and end all of performance motoring.
1. 2003 BMW M3 CSL - 7m 50s
2. 2009 Merc SL 65 AMG Black Series - 7m 51s
3. 2011 Jaguar XKR-S - 7m 51s
4. 2004 Ford GT - 7m 52s
5. 2004 Mercedes CLK DTM - 7m 54s
7. 2005 Ferrari F430 - 7m 55s
8. 2012 BMW M5 - 7m 55s
And here’s two all-wheel drive supercars that couldn’t keep up with the little Honda, either!
