8 Things To Look Forward To At SEMA 2016
Rob Dahm’s four-rotor RX-7 has been a long time coming thanks to some frankly bizarre courier-related issues with the unique engine, but at SEMA 2016 it’ll at last make its debut. All being well, it should be the fastest street-legal rotary car ever seen…
Unsurprisingly, the guys and gals over at Liberty Walk are busy cooking up something very special for SEMA. We’re talking about this wide-arched McLaren 650S, and it’s guaranteed to look stunning.
3. Ford's four F-150 concepts
As well as individuals and tuner companies bringing along all manner of hot cars for us to drool over, the car manufacturer presence at SEMA is always huge. Special mention this year goes to Ford, which is bringing four exceptionally badass F-150s to the show.
There’s the off-road-ified SuperCrew you see above - made by Bojix design - which will be joined by a BMX-inspired F-150 Lariat SuperCrew, a gold SuperCab by A.R.E. Accessories, and probably the maddest of them all, the ‘EraThr3’ SuperCrew by Hulst Customs. Upset about the Raptor going V6? This 740bhp, 5.0-litre V8 monster is the perfect antidote.
4. Car Throttle will be there
The TeamCT video guys will be at the show, so make sure you keep an eye out for them!
We all loved Sung Kang’s amazing 240Z at SEMA last year, but as far as tuner projects go, a 240Z is a little obvious, isn’t it? However, Sung has gone completely the other way for his SEMA 2016 car, by using the under-appreciated Ford Maverick in what he’s dubbed ‘Project Underdog’.
It’s powered by a 2.3-litre Ecoboost engine from the new Mustang - the perfect powerplant for an ‘underdog’ - but that’s not the best part of the project. The key part of the build is that Sung has drafted in a trio of students from Alhambra High School to help out on the project while being mentored by industry experts. And if that wasn’t enough, the finished car will be auctioned off for the benefit of the SEMA Memorial Scholarship Foundation, helping out yet more youngsters wishing to work in the auto industry.
6. Nitrous'd Hyundai Santa Fe
Hyundai has a great track record for turning up to SEMA with once ordinary cars turned into mad machines. That’s certainly the case for 2016, with the manufacturer bringing along a Santa Fe SUV that’s been jacked up, given massive 35-inch off-road tyres, and had a nitrous kit bolted onto its 3.3-litre V6 engine.
7. Honda Civic Type R prototype
It’s not just modified cars at SEMA - this year’s show will see the North American debut of Honda’s new Civic Type R prototype. With all those crazy wings and vents, it looks outrageous enough to fit in with a lot of the tuner cars at the event, we reckon!
8. Tire Stickers
Most importantly, Tire Stickers will be at the show! If you’re at SEMA this year, make sure you stop at booth number 50115 in the Performance Pavilion to pay us a visit. Better yet, if you’re an individual or a company displaying a car this year, through our SEMA 2016 Sponsorship Promotion we can provide you with free stickers. Article makes it seem like its a public event when its industry only. Hype for what? Pics? Videos?
The event is public and industry now.
Oh look, Liberty Walk ruining another car.
I’ll be there✌️✌
What about the LA autoshow? 😤
Matt Robinson - will you all be over here?
Sadly not! I’ll be holding the fort while Alex Kersten, Adnan Ebrahim and George (our new video guy) head over. Not bitter at all. I think ;)
Everyone complaining or bragging about being able to go or not. But no one realizes that sema is closed to the public and you can go if you’re going for your business. 😂
OverFender Nationals
Come and see a ruined lamborghini, that you can’t drive properly because is too low and the suspension is useless…
