An 800bhp Hybrid Mercedes-AMG GT Four-Door Is Coming In 2020
At the Geneva Motor Show last year, Mercedes-AMG’s GT Concept represented quite a statement of intent. Essentially a saloon take on the GT two-door coupe, it packed a mighty 805bhp from a twin-turbo V8 hybrid powertrain.
The production version was revealed at this year’s Geneva show, but with a conspicuous absence of a full-on hybrid. There’s the solely V8-powered GT63 and 63 S, and the mild hybrid 53, but that’s it for now. But don’t worry: Mercedes-AMG has something up its sleeve to blow the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid out of the water.
Speaking to Car Throttle at the Geneva Motor Show on the subject of full hybrid AMG GT Four-Doors, AMG CEO Tobias Moers said: “Expect what you saw last year [at Geneva]…that’s going to come to the market. Not now because we need time, but we’re going to hit the market with that approach.”
Moers later clarified that he “can’t confirm that we’ll have that in the portfolio” right now, but should it happen (and we fully expect it to), we’d be looking at a debut around 2020.
Powerful hybrids are firmly on the agenda for the future AMG range as a whole, too. “We don’t exclude battery driven cars for the future, but for the first step [with hybrids], you can increase efficiency and performance in parallel,” he said, adding, “We see a lot of room for new ideas and new thinking.”
Given that the 63 and 63 S badges are already taken by existing models, it seems likely that the hybrid version would be badged GT73, becoming the first AMG to be given the 73 moniker since the R129 SL73.

We need The Pacifier movie reboot. So many 600 to 800 hp 4 door cars………..damn those car chasing scenes with kids inside will be horribly enjoyable.
I think that’s the first time anyone’s ever suggested that we need a remake of The Pacifier.
If I remember the movie, it looked as if the
Minivan itself had 800hp
How is a four-door AMG GT a Coupe?

Am I the only one thinking that this AMG GT NEEDS an estate/shooting brake version? You know, since it’s rivalling the Panamera…
Option 1:
you go and buy an e63s T-Model (wagon) which is better looking, more practical and basically the same thing…
Option 2:
Get the panamera (sports turismo) which at least isn’t called a ‘coupe’ well bc it isn’t. And is an overall way better car than those mercedes. Trust me I’ve been in both. The ride and interior quality of the porsche is a lot better.
Mercedes does like a good niche car, but then again, CLS Shooting Brake was axed due to poor sales…
Hey Matt, do you personally think these will sell well? I just don’t really see the need of this car, personally. I’m interested in getting opinion from a certified journalist :)
… and I’ll still prefer Porsche over Merc.
800 bhp!? In a foor door!?
Imagine how the rear passengers would feel as you floor it
800 hp in a four-door is not new, but in a production car? thats pretty sweet of them
So, is this what a Dodge Charger Demon would be like…
