9 Crazy Moments From The Action Packed WEC 6 Hours Of Spa

1. The start

Four different classes, 34 cars and one of the most famous race tracks in the world. The start of the 6 Hours of Spa was quite a spectacle!

There were some absolutely brilliant battles at the front of the field in the LMP1 class – that scrap between the No.7 Audi and No.5 Toyota through Eau Rouge and Raidillon was absolutely breathtaking.
There was also a big crash in the early stages for the GTE-Pro Aston Martin of Nicki Thiim after contact with the No.38 G-Drive Racing LMP2 car at Stavelot.

But away from the first place overall, there were some brilliant fights out on track in the LMP2 and GT classes. It was awesome to see such a diverse mix of cars and drivers battling wheel-to-wheel, and so cleanly too!

While there was lots of clean, tidy racing at Spa, there were also some not so successful overtaking attempts and battles.
6. The worst place to crash

The No.66 Ford GT of Stefan Mücke suffered a huge crash after losing control at Eau Rouge. Thankfully, it has been confirmed that he is okay, find more information and the full clip here.
The No.36 Signatech Alpine and the No.31 Extreme Speed Motorsports enjoyed a great fight for the LMP2 lead in the closing stages and it resulted in this epic overtake!
8. Big names hit trouble

There were some big names at the front of the field hitting trouble, as the leading LMP1 pack was shook up. Every factory car visited the pit garages at least once for repairs, or to retire. The No.2 Porsche finished second despite a big hybrid problem, while the No.5 Toyota suffered an engine failure while leading. The No.6 car had already retired with engine issues. The No.1 Porsche suffered several punctures and the No.7 Audi picked up a broken floor and suffered reliability gremlins.
9. No.8 Audi wins

Issues for rivals opened the door for the No.8 Audi of Lucas di Grassi, Oliver Jarvis and Loic Duval to take the overall 6 Hours of Spa victory, from the limping No.2 Porsche and the No.13 privateer Rebellion.
In LMP2 the No.36 Signatech Alpine triumphed, while the No.71 Ferrari and No.98 Aston Martin took the GTE Pro and AM wins respectively.

I called the Audi win so hard on this one, even gambled on it with friends. We were on the edge of our seats, beer was spilled everytime the action picked up and we were just all over the place. It was even good to watch the racing that didn’t contain our favorites. It was a great hangout, and you’d think this all took place at a house, it was actually in the boss’s office at work, that 55 inch sure came in handy.
Boss office? You mean batcave
Audi won because of luck. You know it’s true. Even Oliver Jarvis himself said so.
That move by Lapierre was awesome! Talk about an overtake! And YEEEAH Alpine won its category!
That was a hell of a race. Non stop drama. I hope Le Mans will be just as dramatic, hopefully with a Porsche victory.
For six hours too! Brilliant stuff
you spelled Audi wrong.
I was watching from the beginning of the kemel straight when the Ford GT crashed. What an impact. Great racing. Great Atmosphere!
Glad to hear you had an awesome day :D
If you look at lap times closely if the Porsches are pushed they are faster than audi in lmp1 by a margin of nearly one second. Interesting race, hope everything goes well in LeMans and Porsche do a one-two victory just like last year. Toyota’s prototype is very good too, hope everything goes well for all factory teams and we see a nice and intense race.
The fact that the Rebellion earned a podium on-track (and are 2-3 in overall P1 standings as of now), Toyota taking one classified position away from Porsche by finishing their final lap by going almost the entire way around Spa with no engine, and Merhi’s rage to third after a late-race penalty definitely has to be three of my favorite instances.
And i’m just here in America, not able to see any of this awsomeness… 😠
Fox Sports 1 & 2, or the official streaming package, which is actually quite cheap considering what you’ll get.
I was there, first time saw a lmp1 car racing and i must say these things are so incredible fast, it looks like the other >500hp racecars are standing still
Have you recorded some that you can maybe share? 😉
M8 you don’t need to tell me.
I was there as well
good to see toyota having sorted out their hybrid system
