9 Things No Petrolhead Can Live Without
1. Top Gear
Okay, so the Top Gear we know and love is dead, but if you’re in the UK you can flick over to the Dave channel pretty much any time to get your fix. Most young petrolheads would probably be lying if they said Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond combined didn’t help inspire them to love cars. We can’t wait for their new show, but for now it’s all about them reruns!
2. Their favourite road
We all have one. No matter where you live, you’ll know that one stretch of tarmac where you can head to have fun in your car. It’s the perfect place to go after a stressful day to let out your frustrations and just kill some boredom. The best thing about loving cars is the actual driving; your favourite road lets you fully explore that.
3. Box full of tools
For most petrolheads, leaving your car alone is an impossible prospect. Whether your skills range from being able to change a wheel, to having the ability to swap an engine in an afternoon, you’ll at least have some tools to get you by.
4. A small symbol of their obsession
The reality of life means that most petrolheads don’t get to enjoy their hobby 24/7. To help deal with that, and as a small way of expressing their individuality, most will have some kind of symbol of their obsession with cars. This can range from having model cars on their work desk to posters on their bedroom walls; no matter what it is, it’s a constant reminder of what makes you happy.
5. Duct tape and cable ties
Duct tape fixes everything. If it doesn’t, try cable ties. Still not working? You’re not using enough duct tape or cable ties. End of story.
This falls under pretty much the same explanation as duct tape and cable ties. Basically, if something that should be moving isn’t, spray WD40 on it. If it still won’t move, spray more WD40 on it. Simple!
7. Car Throttle app
Any self respecting car guy will already wile away their hours on Car Throttle, so why not make the experience even faster and smoother? Follow your favourite petrolhead personalities, keep up to date with the latest news from the automotive sector, and keep in touch with like-minded individuals. You can download the CT app for Android from the Google Play Store right now! So what are you waiting for?
8. eBay
For some people, the thrill of clambering through a scrapyard in search of that elusive part for cheap sounds like fun. For everyone else there’s eBay. Never has it been so easy to find an obscure part you don’t fancy paying full whack for, or so many cool cars for sale right before your eyes.
9. Video games
Nothing beats the real thing, we all know that. Driving a highly tuned race car around the Nurburgring in real life must be one of the greatest experiences on this little planet. Unfortunately for most of us, there’s no chance of that actually happening. That’s why racing games are so damn awesome. No matter what’s going on around you, simply plug in your controller or jump into your sim setup and smash out a few laps of any circuit in the world. It’s a great way to scratch the track day itch without breaking the bank.
