A 911 GT3 Has Burned To Cinders At The 'Ring And We're Definitely Not Crying

Ladies and gentlemen, we’d like a moment of silence from you for this poor Porsche 911 GT3. The 991-generation car was caught on camera being consumed by fire at the Nurburgring, and the footage may cause you to run out of the room screaming “I’m not crying, there’s something in my eye, OK??”

Exactly how the fire started isn’t clear, although the uploader claims that the car started smoking around the start of Adenauer Forst section of the Nordschleife. Thankfully, the driver is said to have escaped without injury.

There were several well-publicised pre-facelift 991 GT3 fires a few years ago. The problem was due to faulty con rod fasteners, which would eventually lead to a cracked engine block, allowing oil to leak onto the hot exhaust.

All 785 affected cars were recalled to have updated 3.8-litre flat-six engines fitted, so it seems unlikely that this particular fire is linked to that issue.
