The 997 Speedster Is A Rare Porsche 911 We Want Desperately
With the recent reveal of the new 991 Porsche 911 GTS, we have Stuttgart’s finest firmly on the brain. We thought about digging up a 997 GTS from the classifieds to admire, but instead, we’re looking at something much more special: the 911 Speedster. Built as an homage to the old 356 Speedster, just 356 were made (see what they did there?) with only 22 coming to these shores.
With a distinctive double bubble tonneau cover and a windscreen that’s 77mm shallower, the Speedster apes the looks of its ancestor. Mechanically, everything underneath is as per the old GTS, which means 408bhp from a 3.8-litre flat-six, and a 0-62mph time of 4.2 seconds.
As standard the Speedster came finished in ‘Pure Blue’ - a colour available on no other Porsche - but buyers could opt for white instead. Most went for the blue, so plumping for white actually resulted in an even rarer car. Whoever stumped up the original £144,100 asking price of this example did exactly that. Sadly, even if you have a spare £114,995, you can’t buy this one, as it’s already sold.
What would be your rare 911 of choice?
