The Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio Is About To Die In North America
Alfa Romeo’s Quadrifoglio models, consisting of the Giulia saloon and Stelvio SUV, are some of the most appealing performance cars currently on the market. With focused chassis, sonorous twin-turbo V6s and an undeniable level of style, they’re some of the first Alfas in decades that don’t have to be justified with a ‘but’ after rattling off a long list of flaws.
Sadly, if you live in the US or Canada, that won’t be the case for much longer, as Alfa has confirmed that the Quadrifoglio range, in its current form at least, is being discontinued this spring.
Confirmation came on LinkedIn from Larry Dominique, the head of Alfa’s North American division, who said: “The opportunity to order a 2024 Giulia Quadrifoglio or Stelvio Quadrifoglio will close to North America at the end of April 2024.” He went on to confirm that the final Quadrifoglios bound for the US and Canada would be produced in July. The news was further confirmed by Stellantis North America on X, formerly Twitter.
Dominique did drop some hints about the future of the Quadrifoglio performance badge, stating that the Giulia and Stelvio would be the final combustion-only cars to wear it. His choice of words is interesting - last we heard, Alfa was planning on being a fully electric brand by 2027, but Dominique’s comments suggest that hybrid Quadrifoglio models could be in the works in the interim.
This could have something to do with the EU loosening its upcoming Euro 7 emissions regulations, which has given the Quadrifoglios’ 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 an unexpected stay of execution (although this doesn’t really explain the decision to discontinue the cars in North America, which currently has less strict regulations than Europe). A tweaked version will find a home as one of the powertrain options in the upcoming, limited-run 33 Stradale supercar, which can also be had as a full EV, but beyond that, the engine’s future uses aren’t clear.
A UK spokesperson for Alfa Romeo has confirmed to Car Throttle that the Quadrifoglio models will live on in other markets until the Giulia and Stelvio reach the end of their lifecycles. Don’t expect that to be too far off - the Giulia has been around since 2016 and the Stelvio since 2017, and most recent reports have hinted at all-electric replacements in 2025 and 2026, respectively.
The lesser 2.0-litre petrol versions of both cars will continue to be sold in North America alongside the Tonale compact crossover, but if you live there and want a Quadrifoglio, you better get the chequebook out quickly.
