The Alfa Romeo Mito Will Be Killed Off Soon
The Mito is a car that Alfa Romeo probably doesn’t want kicking around in its showrooms right now. It’s an ageing, Punto-based linked to the old Alfa - a company that flogged rehashed Fiats in the hope that some added emotional appeal and oddball triangular grilles might make them stand out from the masses.
Both it and the Giulietta look a little awkward next to the company’s newer products - underpinned by the bespoke rear/all-wheel drive Giorgio architecture - so it should come as no surprise that the Mito is for the chop.
The car’s fate was already looking likely when the supermini failed to appear on Alfa Romeo’s five-year road map for the future - revealed last June - but now Alfa’s European boss Roberta Zerbi has confirmed that it will be taken off sale early 2019.
Speaking to Autocar, she suggested that the move wasn’t just to do with the car’s age. “Mito is a three-door and people are choosing more and more five-door cars,” she explained, adding that the brand’s incoming smaller SUV will fill the void for the younger market. “It can help fill the gap between the Giulietta and Stelvio. And people that bought a Mito in the last couple of years – people grow up, start having children,” she said.
Sadly, this sort of buyer does not want a small estate car these days, and thus, a Giulia estate is not part of that five-year roadmap either. Boo…

Oh great, ANOTHER nice car getting the boot for a freaking SUV
D-does that mean no more smiley Italian boi? ;w;
What will woman drive now? Wait there’s still the fiat 500
Lancia Ypsilon?
I know this is a bit random but thanks Mr. Robinson! Even with the evident downfall of the site and the community members damn near picketing against you, you still stick to it. Your articles are always insightful and inspiring and I don’t think people around these parts give you enough credit. So thank you!
Why are people “damn near picketing”?
SUV is the worst thing happened to this planet.
No, crossover is, SUV used to be off-roadable dog gamnit
I can’t understand why people buy these SUVs, they are total shit on off-road, they are heavier, less fun to drive, uglier and most of the times more expensive than a hatchback.
Active lifestyle crap
Because of the higher ride height which apparently makes the average car buyer feel safer and more superior than their fellow motorists in their lower hatchbacks and sedans.
Why the hell are the Italians just cant keep up with the competition? I mean, if you look at the FCA, only Jeep sells very well and has nice models due to the SUV craze. Fiat and Alfa are just not having enough good models for everyone. Lets take Alfa. Yea the Guilia is impressive and mighty sexy, but its missing an estate version and a sub 2L engine for the markets that are taxing based on engine displacement. I’d love a Guilia, but anything >1,6L is out of the question. Stelvio is pretty nice if you are into SUVs. Mito and Guilietta are by now old rebadged fiats and should not just be cut but replaced. If not the Mito, at least the Guilieta. Why not make a new 1,4L turbo petrol / 1,6 turbo diesel 5-door hatcback on the new platform to appeal to the alfisti that want a small practical car? Guilia is just to expensive for most people. And then we move to Fiat… The once champion of vfm is just so un-appealing. Nothing it its range is even remotely good. Panda is just a barebones city car. Punto is 12 years old and finally dropped, but not replaced. Which is a big mistake. Tipo is just ugly and technologically inferior to the competition. The 500 series is just weird.
Why not make a 5 door with a 1.4-1.6 engine?
Because it would be a rebadge of this, the Alfa Romeo you want will never happen because that’s not what Alfa is anymore
and before you call it ugly, check the nearest competitors
A 1.6l or smaller Giulia? I should hope not.
This makes me so happy , mito was just a reskinned punto ,so who bought one in these years has spent a lots of cash for an underengineered car with underpowered engines, crappy suspension and last but not least a chassis that was developed over a decade ago and it’s completely unsafe for todays standards , so if anyone of you guys wants to buy a Mito before it reaches the end of the production … Trust me… Buy an used 147,156 or a gt , and you’ll be happy !
Oh my poor 09 plate mito…
good night sweet prince
