Alpina B6 Bi-Turbo Convertible
They've tried to perfect almost all BMW saloons or coupes created during the company's existence. From the everyday 3 series saloon right up to the 8 series coupe from the 90s as well as the Z1, Z4 and Z8 roadsters.
This is their latest experiment; the 6 Series convertible. Like an M6, there's a large front spoiler with a carbonfibre splitter, a spoiler on the back - unlike the B6 coupe which has a rear wing on the boot lid - plus four titanium exhausts housed in a rear defuser. Inside the Alpina Classic 20-inch alloys are high-performance brakes; 374mm fronts and 345mm rears.
It doesn't have as much horsepower as an M6 at 540hp, but the twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre V8 has 538lb-ft of torque, 36 more than the big M car. 0-62mph takes a tenth of a second longer than the M6 but the Alpina isn't restricted to 155mph and can get up to a top speed of 197mph.
Instead of being more hardcore than the average Bimmer, Alpina want their cars to feel more lush inside. No rock hard, body squeezing sports seats or carbon fibre in this droptop GT. Instead, the seats are hand-stitched in Lavalina leather and you're surrounded by burr wood trim. If you're not keen on the interior shown then have no fear. Alpina say that 'no limits are set on the personal predilections of customers'. In short, there are plenty of trim pieces and upholstery colours to pick from, including blue!
The new B6 Bi-Turbo convertible makes its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. Prices start at £97,850, that's just a tad less than the M6 convertible.
