America’s Fastest Police Car Is Now An SUV With A Hybrid V6
The new Ford Police Interceptor Utility with permanent all-wheel drive has beaten off all competition to become the fastest police car in the USA. The 2020 model has blitzed its rivals’ 0-60mph and 0-100mph times as well as recording a faster lap of a test track.
Michigan State Police has been trialling new vehicles for its next order of pursuit cars. Its preliminary figures make the new Interceptor the fastest vehicle that has ever been supplied to any US police force across the two benchmark sprints and a circuit. Its 3.0-litre hybridised V6 clearly packs a wallop.
To add to that, the front-wheel drive 2020 Police Interceptor Utility with the same engine has recorded a faster 0-100mph and faster lap times than the outgoing 3.7-litre all-wheel drive V6 version.
Police Interceptor Utility vehicles hit as much as 150mph in the Michigan State Police tests, putting them ahead of every other model on offer; even saloons with V8 engines.
The new hybrid drivetrain should also manage a 40 per cent improvement in fuel economy versus the old 3.7. Ford is targeting an average of at least 24mpg (US), partly thanks to the wholesale reduction in engine idling time.
By powering the necessary electronics like communications equipment and lights from the hybrid’s lithium-ion battery, the engine doesn’t need to run more than intermittently, Ford says. Applying the predicted fuel cost savings to the number of Police Interceptor Utilitys sold in 2017 would reportedly result in a nationwide savings of over $126 million.

And then 25 years will have passed and corners will decide the win
Here in the UK we have fairly pacey X5s and 530ds.
I very highly doubt this is faster than a charger. Oregon state police gets special order all wheel drive chargers with the 6.4 liter hemi and i seriously doubt an suv can lap a track faster than that
In this most recent test, the Police Explorer set the fastest lap around the track, even faster than the Charger. However, the lap record on this test track was set in 2013, by the mechanically-identical Charger. The only possible explanation for this is driving inconsistencies in each annual test.
(Side note: The Charger Pursuit is only available with the 5.7 Hemi, or 3.6 V6)
6.4? The engine from the civilian 392 version what you are referring to? I never heard Charger pursuit is officially available with this engine, as FCA fleet website only listed the 3.6 and 5.7. I also don’t know that you can have this engine on the Charger with the combination of AWD. Can’t imagine how crammed the engine bay will be with that 6.4 engine and have to accommodate a front diff. Must be a pretty special order then.
Smh my civic could totes beat that
Don’t let this distract you from the fact that Hector is gonna be running 3 Honda Civic’s with spoon engines. On top of that he just came into Harry’s and ordered 3 t66 turbo’s with NOS’s and a Motec System Exhaust.
I prefer this one
Honestly all government cars should be electric
Okay how is having the fastest suv gonna help crime or help our boys in blue in anyway at all? How does it handle at high speeds? Any bulletproofing? I feel like a faster car is the worst option to improve a police vehicle.
Still not as fast as the Crown Vics in NFS…
