AMG Sport Is Here To Give You Potent Mercs With A Little Less Madness
When it comes to having a sporty sub-brand that sits under the proper weapons-grade stuff, BMW and Audi have it pretty well sorted. BMW has M Performance, the milder version of M Division, while Audi has its S branded cars that are a little more restrained than the RS machines. But what about the other company in the German ‘big three’: Mercedes? The ‘Engineered By AMG’ badge was rolled out only once for a spiced-up A250, but we’re about to see other ‘lesser’ cars in Merc’s range get input from Affalterbach, with the introduction of the new ‘AMG Sport’ sub-brand.
‘AMG Sport’ is a moniker we’ve heard before, with reports emerging earlier in the year of a ‘C450 AMG Sport’ eventually being offered to plug the gap between the C400 and the full-fat C63. This is most likely what you can see in the image at the top of the page, next to an AMG Sport version of the new GLE SUV.
The cars will offer “enhanced performance and technical refinements.” It’s all part of Mercedes-AMG’s plans to double its 2013 sales figure by 2017 to well over 60,000 units. We can’t wait to see what the new brand comes up with.
