The Arctic Trucks AT32 Is A Nissan Navara We Can Definitely Love

Arctic Trucks, the company that brought us the Isuzu D-Max AT35 pickup, has released another higher, stronger, modified truck to sink your teeth into.

The Nissan Navara Off-Roader AT32 has just been launched at the Commercial Vehicle Show at the NEC in Birmingham. The number 32 was chosen to reference the outer diameter, in inches, of those beefy new tyres.

Larger, off-road rubber sits on special 17-inch Arctic Trucks-designed black wheels. The high air volume allows for creative pressure-lowering antics to tackle sand or snow.

The suspension has been raised, too, for a ground clearance increase of 20mm, to 243mm. The simple mod has lifted the pickup’s approach angle to 35 degrees from 30.4, with a new ‘breakover’ angle of 24 degrees instead of 22.2. The tweaked Navara’s overall height is 40mm taller.

As per the D-Max AT35, Arctic Trucks has developed beefy wheel arch extensions that add visual punch and help protect the bodywork “during extreme off-roading.” Beneath the painted body is a series of protective plates that shield vulnerable parts of the drivetrain and running gear, plus the fuel tank.

Hopefully no one will buy one of these to pose with down at their local supermarket car park; the spec sheet says that’s not what it’s built for. Hill Start Assist and Hill Descent Control are standard, and the Around View Monitor could be pure genius on a tricky rock climb.

Optional are a snorkel and a front locking differential, for if you’re really serious about it. The snorkel protects the engine from dust and water, takes the AT32’s wading depth to 800mm – up 200mm – and makes it look like you’re driving around with the Loch Ness Monster on your bonnet. The front locking diff? Well, that’s just useful sometimes. The Navara has a locking rear differential as standard.

There are two 2.3-litre four-cylinder diesel engines to choose from, with 158bhp, 297lb ft and a manual gearbox or a twin-turbocharged 187bhp, 332lb ft and a seven-speed automatic. The body style is the passenger-friendly double-cab only. Twin five-year warranties from Nissan, for the standard parts, and from Arctic Trucks, for the modifications, come as standard.
