Aston Martin Has Finally Seen Sense By Killing The Cygnet

It's official: the Cygnet has been killed off

Aston Martin has finally pulled the plug on its ill-fated Cygnet model and for that, we are thankful.

A rebodied version of the Toyota iQ, the Cygnet is (correction: was) powered by a 1.3-litre, four-pot petrol engine. Its heady power reserves (97bhp, 92lb ft) would launch the car to 62mph in 11.6sec and onto a top speed of 106mph. It was thanks to the Cygnet's low Co2 emissions (120g/km) that the car - unofficially - made production to allow the firm to continue producing high powered sports cars.

Prices for the Cygnet started from £32,080 (that's over £20k more than an iQ, for reference) and no more than 150 cars were ever bought. One such owner was Sir Stirling Moss, who bought one for his wife.
