We already know the Aston Martin AM-RB 001 is going to be more than a little bit special, but now we know more detail. Aston has released a list of its technical partners on the project, and just look at what each player is going to bring to the groundbreaking hypercar.

The design and development team is led by aerodynamics guru Adrian Newey, so the chances of this car being a dud are lower than a worm’s backside. Here’s a list of some of the awesome stuff we can expect to see on the car by the time deliveries start in 2019.

Bespoke British-built engine and gearbox

Aston and Milton Keynes-based Red Bull Racing have kept it British by turning to engine experts Cosworth to design and build a bespoke, high-revving 6.5-litre normally aspirated V12. Drool. Power is expected to be in the neighbourhood of 900bhp.

A completely new gearbox will be built by Ricardo to Red Bull’s specifications, designed specifically for the engine Cosworth is working on. All we know about it is that it will have seven speeds and paddle shifters, but not what type of gearbox it is. Yet.

Hybrid batteries

The team has turned to Rimac, the makers of the electric Concept One hypercar, for battery tech. It’s not known whether the setup will work more like the hybrid system in the LaFerrari or the Porsche 918 Spyder, but one thing you can guarantee is extra performance.

1:1 power-to-weight ratio

Aston and Red Bull are targeting a kerb weight of less than a tonne, with a brake horsepower for every kilogram of its road-ready kerb weight. This should be something absolutely mighty to behold, matching the Koenigsegg One:1’s ratio but offering far more downforce.

Reliable electronics

Bosch has been signed up to provide the ECU, traction control and stability control, which on a car with performance as dramatic as this one’s will be is no mean feat. Turning back to British manufacturers, Wipac will make the full-LED headlights and tail lamps.

Aston Martin says a maximum of 150 AM-RB 001s will be built for the road, including the late-stage development prototypes that still exist. On top of that, 25 more extreme track-only versions will be built. And no, you can’t afford one. The prices are likely to sail well past £2 million.

This is basically an early 90’s Group C car with the wings taken off and some batteries shoved in. Bravo Aston Martin! That’s exactly what a hypercar should be.

Erm… I mean there’d be no downforce, but no lift either…

“That can’t happen Jeremy”
“Downforce is like an elephant sitting on top of the car, what if you go around a bend and it falls off?”

I think with. Otherwise it’ll easily push over 1000 hp and they are keeping it inder a ton with a 1:1 power to weight ratio
