Behold The VW Arteon Shooting Brake Without Any Camo
Our SUV infested world needs more wagons. And that’s science fact. Sort of. So, we are delighted to announce that VW has made an Arteon ‘Shooting Brake’, and although it’s not due to be revealed until later this year, a completely undisguised prototype has been papped undergoing winter testing.
The tiny, studded-tyre-shod wheels aren’t doing it any favours, but we’ve no doubt with a bigger, spanglier set of rims it’ll look the business. Specced up like the recently released Arteon R Line Edition, it’d be particularly alluring.
VW confirmed it’d build an estate derivative of the Arteon way back in 2018, so while this spotting doesn’t come as a huge surprise, it’s nonetheless good to see the car in the metal. Hype building can now officially start.
Another thing VW has previously hinted at is a turbocharged VR6 engine for the Arteon hatch, which would have been a shoo-in for the Shooting Brake too. In fact, there was even a prototype version doing the rounds at some point using a 3.0-litre engine derived from the Teramont’s 2.5-litre six, but it’s looking unlikely that such a unit will make it into either kind of Arteon. Boo.
Instead, the Shooting Brake will carry over the hatch’s existing engine line-up, with options in the UK ranging from a 148bhp 2.0-litre diesel to a 268bhp EA888 TSI inline-four borrowed from the Golf R. A plug-in hybrid version is expected to be added at some point also.
Would you have an Arteon Shooting Brake instead of the standard hatch?

I love how they put the tape on the D pillar. Is like: “… Put some tape over there. Nobody won’t know it is a Station Wagon”
It’s a normal Kombi
If it had 3 doors and not 5 it’d be a shooting brake
I whole heartedly endorse bringing this beautiful vehicle to the USA! I for one, would purchase one! I’m tired of SUV’s. They are boring!
I like how they’re trying to mask it as a Passat estate with that weird fake chrome trim on the rearmost side window. Like wow, that definitely tricked us.
Nice looking passat
I drive a 4-door coupe Arteon and am so happy to have such a sleek and elegant looking CAR. I had had enough of station wagons and SUVs. And it still has loads of space for people and things. So this new wagon certainly isn’t for me. It looks like so many others.
exactly it just is a normal estate nothing special.
I prefer the normal Arteon aswell.
I like it but the Atreon Hatch/Saloon looks a lot prettier than this one does. It has weird angles on the sides near the back which just dont sit right.
But it is good to see they are making an estate again, I mean the Skoda Superb estate sells well in the UK and i believe this has a similar platform.
Unpopular opinion: Get a Skoda Superb its bigger and still looks nicer
I wouldn’t have a VW at my age, But if I were 30-something, yes. And it’d be the oil-burner: i live amongst the Yanks and can delete Gov’t/eco-mentalism silliness and tune me ECU to me heart’s content. Tuned diesel = Torque Monster
It’s a lovely Estate, but then most are
