The billionaire owner of a Lamborghini Miura is suing the garage that serviced his car, after it went up in flames. Jon Hunt claims mechanics fitted the wrong type of spark plugs, causing the supercar to blow up less than a mile from the garage.

Mr Hunt’s son was at the wheel of the rare exotic when it caught fire, but was uninjured. Hunt is suing Lamborghini London, claiming £700,000 compensation for the wrecked car, plus additional funds for storage and ‘loss of enjoyment’ of the vehicle.

Mr Hunt’s lawyer outlined what he believes to be the cause of the fire:

“The spark plugs fitted worked at too high a temperature and created the risk of fire. The fire was caused by the ignition of fuel. Such ignition could not have taken place unless the fuel system was not intact or the spark plugs were not properly adjusted or fitted. Both of these matters could have been avoided by a competent service of the vehicle.”
