BMW is set to update their highly acclaimed twin-sequential turbocharged diesel Inline 6 this year, and the new unit offers more power and torque as well as lower fuel consumption and emissions - a winner on all counts.
The 3.0L unit, which sees duty in the 3, 5, and 7 series cars, currently produces 286bhp and 580nM of torque - or 428lb-ft. The new engine, which will be introduced in the new 735d, produces a healthier 306bhp@4400rpm and 600nM(442lb-ft)@1500rpm. That's the kind of low-end grunt that could get people out of their gas-engined BMW's for good!
The updated twin-turbo diesel is expected to trickle down to through the rest of the BMW lineup as the year progresses. Despite the power increase, BMW claims a 4% reduction in C02 emissions as well as fuel consumption. Sounds like a winning combination to me.
