The BMW i8 Configurator Is Now Live But You'll Have To Wait 10 Months For Delivery

When we drove the BMW i8, it was immediately clear that the future was here. It seems that the UK public has fallen in love with the hybrid cruiser just as much as we have, which is why every single i8 in the country has been sold, despite its £100k price tag.

The Park Lane showroom in London’s Mayfair is the most successful dealership, having sold 170 cars, and its sales manager told The Telegraph that he’s even had numerous offers for the display car.

The BMW i8 comes with a mid-mounted 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine, which powers the rear wheels. It gets a turbocharger that bumps its output to 228bhp and 236lbs ft of torque. Out front is a 96kW electric motor sending 129bhp and 184lbs ft of torque to the front wheels. This hybrid setup makes the i8 cheap to run and exempt from London’s Congestion Charge, an appealing prospect for buyers.

The news comes as the i8’s online configurator went live on the BMW USA website. We’ve already lost time figuring out exactly which paint and wheels combo we’d go for. In the end we decided it had to be Crystal White Pearl with blue accents, 20-inch turbine wheels and an Ivory White interior.
