BMW’s ‘The Hire’ Film Series Is Getting A Follow-Up, And It’s Going To Be Awesome
Believe it or not, it’s now 15 years since BMW first kicked off its ‘The Hire’ short film series with Clive Owen. As a form of branded content released directly on the Internet, the shorts were ahead of their time, placing Owen - credited as ‘The Driver’ - in situations where he’d have to drive BMWs jolly fast, usually while being shot at.
The films - which ran for two series - were slickly produced, directed by the likes of Tony Scott, John Frankenheimer (aka the bloke behind Ronin) and Ang Lee. In addition to Owen, the shorts featured other high-profile actors including Forest Whittaker, Gary Oldman and, erm, Madonna.
The new series is called ‘The Escape’, and judging by the sneak peak at the top of the page, it’s going to be brilliant. The first short even has Jon Bernthal from The Walking Dead getting all shouty.
It’ll also star Dakota Fanning and Vera Farmiga, and is directed by Neil Blomkamp of District 9 fame. It’ll go live on 23 October.

How a BMW commercial should look like
Screw placing a product in a movie… just make the movie.
There’s a certain obvious genius there.
It’s like the first Transporter movie. Only more American somehow.
Okay after seeing the older one I need an E39 M5 now.
It’s a beast. (In real life it sounds even better)
When you realise its the guy that plays Iron Patriot in the “Iron Man” movies
Audi doesn’t pay to get their cars in the movies (except iron man), like fifty shades of grey…but bmw feels the need to pay to keep up xD
This is where I’d post a re-edited video using The Hire videos depicting Clive Owen as James Bond… But my YouTube got hacked and deleted :-(
