BMW's Mighty M4-Engined 'M2 CS' Has Been Spotted At The 'Ring

What do you get if you drop an M4 engine into an M2 chassis? Looks like we're all about to find out, if this footage from a recent Nurburgring test is anything to go by

The rumoured M2 Club Sport is moving ever closer to reality, if this video is anything to go by.

Combining the M2 body with the engine and suspension from the M4 sounds like a mighty combo, and this footage from the Nurburgring claims to show a test mule for exactly that.

Camouflage around the sides and bumpers of this prototype ‘M2 CS’ could be hiding extra intake ducts, wider arches or added cooling vents.

So far the suggestion is that the M2’s N55 six-pot would be swapped for the S55 from the larger car – a move that hasn’t thrilled everyone – but with a new state of tune dropping output to around 400bhp.

The N55 is said to be close to its limits in terms of performance without major upgrades, hence the wholesale change of block. There’s a lot of crossover in the rumour mill between an M2 CS and a lightweight M2 CSL, but both could ultimately be spawned from this project.

Whichever version arrives first is expected to plug the sizeable cost gap between the M2 and M4. BMW Australia managing director Marc-Heinrich Werner was quoted earlier in the year as saying the upgraded M2 “looks fantastic”, before adding: “there is more to come.”

See, merc can’t put a c63 engine in the a45 because merc actually uses big, nice sounding 8 cylinder engines unlike bimmer.

Ahem, if any of the two, V8 and I6 is wrong for M2 or M3, than its the V8… BMWs are well-known for their iconic I6 engines
And if you don’t care about anything, but just want the fact of a V8, then get yourself a cheap muscle car

M60 in the e34 540i? The v8 in the e39 m5? The v8 in the e92 m3? The v8 in the current M5? The v8 in the e46 BMW GTR? Do your home work. V8’s just arent as common any more in every day cars cause they are expensive to make and have them pass emissions tests.

Problem is having a big heavy V8 over the front wheels screws with weight distribution.

Answer to the question in the index text: You get a car that sounds like a 4-cylinder with a fart can instead of a nice smooth I6

The M2’s N55 sounds much better than the S55 engine. I still don’t know how an inline 6 is able to sound that bad.
